LEGEND
WEST COUNTRY LEGENDS: THE MOONRAKERS
Ah, the Moonrakers of Wiltshire - an enchanting tale of wit and cunning. It is said that a pair of enterprising lads who were illicitly distilling brandy, chose to forgo the formalities of excise paperwork. Forewarned of an impending inspection, they swiftly concealed their barrels in the village pond.
On the night the Customs officials arrived, the full moon revealed the barrels beneath the water’s surface. Quick-witted, the boys grabbed rakes, stirring the water to obscure their stash. When questioned, they feigned stupidity and claimed they were trying to retrieve the ‘cheese’ - the moon’s reflection in the pond.
These Farmhouse Cheddar Cheese Straws are a delightful snack on their own… but taste even better by moonlight with your favourite tipple.
Cheddar, a cheese of remarkable character, is named after the charming village in Somerset where it first saw the light of day. As legend has it, this splendid creation was born quite by accident when a young milkmaid left a bucket of milk in the cool, mysterious caves nearby. When she returned, she discovered that the milk had transformed into a most wonderful solid substance - the illustrious Cheddar Cheese!
